Performance of Betsy begins 40th Anniversary Celebration in New York

Celebrate APPALSHOP'S 40th anniversary with a special performance of BETSY, a collaboration between ROADSIDE THEATER and PREGONES THEATER in the Bronx on November 20th.

Betsy is the story of a Bronx-born Puerto Rican jazz singer who stirs up the little-known history of her Scotch-Irish ancestry, bringing to life ghosts that have a life of their own. This musical is alive with the fire of jazz, bluegrass, and Latin compositions delivered by three powerful vocalists and a five-member Latin-Appalachian band.

Calls from Home

For the last nine years we have been using the power of radio waves reach over prison walls and reconnect families. Our idea is a simple one: Bring prisoners and prisoner family members together by putting their voices on the airwaves. Thousand Kites/WMMT-FM and a national network of grassroots organizations working for criminal justice reform would like to offer you "Calls from Home" a free, special one-hour program which brings the voices of hundreds of prisoner families across the nation to the airwaves. The program will be recorded on Dec. 9 and will be made available for broadcast on December 13th.
